The name combines hane, a traditional word meaning home or household, with kolektif, referring to a community formed through sharing and collaboration. Together they express the project's aim: a collective home and a sense of belonging.

The ground floor is open to the public, accommodating retail spaces, cafés and restaurants, while the upper floors provide student rooms and shared living areas. The project aims to create not only a building, but a community where students and visitors can meet, interact and live collectively.

Located in Block 1 of the İstanbul Textile Traders' Market, the design takes the complex's identity as a historic centre for textiles and fabric trade as its starting point. Inspired by the warp and weft system of a weaving loom, the entire architectural system is organised through a 45-degree spatial language. Textile ribbons flow across the façade and through the courtyard as if taking over the existing structure, allowing residents and visitors to experience İMÇ's textile heritage within an immersive, woven environment.
